Thumbnails VERY SLOW to open.

When I try to view a lot of photos as thumbnails 8-10 will open quickly then the rest open at a snails crawl and opmetimes PS just quits working. I just reinstalled PS 7 today. My OS is 2000P 1.5G pentium4 234G free space 1024M of memory. Isn’t this enough?.
