I’m looking for 3d rendering software (freeware). I want to use it for making 3d objects useable in or with photoshop.
And also for instance to transform pics of faces into 3d models.

Must-have mockup pack for every graphic designer 🔥🔥🔥

Easy-to-use drag-n-drop Photoshop scene creator with more than 2800 items.

There’s plenty around. Wings, POVray, Blender, etc. Do a Google search.

As for faces into 3D models, that will be a tough one. If you have several shots and can make a passable 3D model of the person’s facial structure you might be able to use a photo as a texture map on top of it. There is a program that purports to make 3D objects out of several 2D photos but I can’t remember what it’s called.

Hi Jules

Making faces into 3d models isn’t easy without specialist software. I’ve tried once or twice with mixed results so I’d be interested in any replies to your post.
I suppose it really depends how much time you want to spend on it and how photo-realistic you want your final image to be

At the moment I’m experimenting with 3ds max.
You can get a 30 day trial version from discreet software and there’s lots of tutorials on the web.
However it’ll take me a lot more than 30 days to learn how to use it and the output is scaled down on the trial version

I’m also experimenting with what I call the low tech answer. I use a model head made of blue plastic (but I suppose you could do it on a friends head – don’t use superglue !!!)
Stretch the face photograph in Photoshop until it fits the models face and print it out.- takes a bit of experimenting to get the right proportions. Cut it into pieces and stick them on the model head in all the right places leaving gaps where the paper mask doesn’t fit.
Rotate the model with it’s new face and photograph it with a digital camera. Fill in the gaps with Photoshop.
Works ok for games-type images but not photo-realistic enough that you could use it to change photographs.

A long time ago a company called Ulead ( at least I think it was Ulead) used to sell a program where you took a picture of somebody’s face and another of the side of their head and it would construct a 3d image of the head.- you may be able to get a trial version
When I tried it I wasn’t very impressed with the output (mine had 4 ears) so I never used it.much.
