Open the Layer Styles dialog and select Stroke. There are many options there as to color, size, etc.

i thought i posted this yesterday?
but now it’s gone

would layers—> layer styles—->outer glow do the trick? and just mess with the settings like spread and opacity till it looks good?

a better trick to make only an outline is to ‘write’your text first than select everything in the layer that’s empty (use the harry potter tool and than select similar in menu ‘select’
than select inverse using menu ‘select’/inverse
now you make a new layer, go to layer/ layerstyle and choose stroke and there it is, an outline lettertype!
Good luck!

But it won’t be editable. That’s why you should use Stroke under Layer Styles. Which is a lot faster too.

BUT you don’t have "just" the outline but also a "filled type" I know what you mean that’s why you have to edit your type first before you make such an outline!
Thought you would understand 😉
Or is there an other method?

Lower the Fill Opacity on the type in the same dialog.
