After the freeze I find that both my scratch discs have been filled with huge .tmp files (both over 20 gigs).
Any ideas?
Thanks,

We need way more details. I’m not even sure of what you’re asking. As for the temp files, just delete them if they’re still there after a re-boot.

I have a free photo site, and would like to crop and resize in the same step. so I set the crop tool to 1024×768 (leaving the dpi at the 180 my camera has made it), and then when I crop, CS completely fills up my hard drive with a file so large it freezes. I am baffled.
This used to work without problem on my smaller and slower computer with PS5.5 – I have tried swapping my first and secondary scratch discs, both with lots of free space.

Why is over 20 gigs needed to accomplish this action?
That equals the entire rest of the contents of my HD.

Sounds like you may be setting the 1024×768 to inches instead of pixels?

(maybe CS allows you do that large? PS7 will not)

Mac,
You were right, that is what was happening. Thanks!!!
(I thought the default would be pixels, being a web kind of person) : )

Fontplayer,

My guess is you forgot to add ‘px’ after entering the 1024 and 758, meaning the crop was trying to produce a 1078 in (or cm depending upon your default measurement system) by a 768 in image at 180 ppi, which would quickly saturate any scratch space as it is trying to create a 71.1gig image (assuming RGB)!
