Hello,
I want to start clipart business. So far, I’ve decided to create eps / wmf format. But if I were to offer .psd format, what are the things that I should consider? the resolution, for example?

Thank you

I’d consider the chances of people who would be buying clipart actually having a program that can read a psd file. They may not even know what "resolution" means.

sounds like you mean *print* clipart?
it depends – what kind of quality do you want to offer / how big do you want filesizes to be?

if for web, try .gif

I wouldn’t include PSD files at all. Most of your clients probably wouldn’t be able to use them.

If you do need to consider resolution, probably the highest resolution needed will be 300 dpi. As general guidelines, consider 72 dpi good for web, 200 dpi is good for newspaper, 300 dpi is good for a magazine. Above that, and they’ll likely commission an artist outright instead of using clipart.

Much will depend on the size of the artwork you provide and the size they need. If you can provide artwork that is large, that probably won’t be much of a problem for them to size down in their final proof. But if they need to scale the art up and you’ve only provided a 72 dpi, 1" sq. version, their project and your artwork won’t look good.
