i have reinstalled the program twice and have installed all the current updates available from mother adobe.

Adobe also has/had a ‘cleaner’ program on their site. It is (or was) intended to clean up the hidden files that mess up re-installations. Look for it.

One other thought… when you did the install did you accept the default directory structure?
