Just my thoughts:
– modelled in 3D, maybe?
– a cube with rounded edges was overlayed over a good masking job?

It’s likely the second, with hand painted highlights.

Don’t know how to do it in photoshop, but it IS possible got grow them that way. In Japan, they grow cubicle watermelons:

If it was done in photoshop, that’s pretty cool…

Well. Im pretty sure its only photoshop that can be used. That site is pretty strict. Check out these other ones from the Cubism contest. I very much want to know how its done so maybe if we all search, we can figure it out. 🙂

you can see them here:

If the photo was made to order, then the peppers could have been made in wax. They do have a regular style. Not alike, but close enough to be artificial.

Or just grown inside a metal box so that they would be forced into a cube shape.

You’re suggesting then that the peppers in the "original photo" are not the same peppers the finished picture?

He said it was just a lot of tedious work with the liquify tool. He also said that he may do a tutorial because of the interest he’s gotten.

Have you seen how much the Japanese pay for many items we take for granted? Fruit, beef, etc. have prices that would give us sticker shock on an electronic item.

My understanding is that the Japanese are happy to pay for these squared fruits and veggies in part because they fit more efficiently in small refrigerators.

I work with a lot of Japanese students, and we used to have an extension of our university in Japan. Their penchant for the perfect fruit, an apple for example, is a cultural thing, and some will pay _dearly_ for the right one. I am not belittling them at all, but it did puzzle me at first when we went shopping. Me, I’d just scoop up a dozen apples like the big stupid American I am, while they searched for one that was just right, and usually bought none!
