This is off topic, but I’m not sure where to ask, and maybe someone here will know the answer.
I found this image on the web:
http://www.derekfountain.org/misc/evolve.jpg
using a Google Images search. It was actually on some guy’s blog, but it appears in several places on the ‘net.
I want to use this image on a commercial website, and would therefore want to get permission and pay a fee to the copyright holder if there is one. Only, there’s no credit or copyright on the image, so how do I trace the owner? The image might be in the public domain, but it’s also possible that it had a copyright mark on it which has at some point been cropped off.
I guess I could hire an artist to copy it for me, producing a work which I know is original, but if it’s a public domain image that would be a waste of time and money.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed?
