Up to approx. $1,000 – Photo quality, not sure about the differences between the different inks – would appreciate an explanation. Thank you.

Epson is really the only game in town for pro quality for your price range. The specific printer model to get depends on your specific needs. Check http://www.epson.com to see what’s available.

epson 2400
prints 13 inches wide

or check out the just released 3800 still in short supply prints 17 inches wide, and has much larger ink carts
which is more efficient.

I suppose if you HAVE to spend $1,000 I’d agree with Shawn, but it really isn’t necessary to spend that much.

Take a look at the Canon Pixma 9500 & 9500Pro when it comes out. You might also take a look at:-

http://www.digital-photography.org/printer_product_reviews_p rice_comparisons_ratings_evaluations/Canon_PIXMA_Pro9000_Pro 9500_inkjet_printers.php

another write up at:-

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/canon_pro9000.ht ml

This one refers to the 9000 which goes for around $450. Haven’t seen the prices for the newer models, but doubt that
they’ll be as high as $1,000. By the way I have no axe to grind, don’t have any association with Canon or anyone who
sells Canon, just good results.

Thank you – so far, I lean toward Epson.

I’m looking for a photo quality printer myself and was leaning toward Epson, but after reading reviews, I am beginning to lean away from Epson. I’m not sure what I’m going to buy, but I don’t think it will be an Epson; their print head technology is flawed and they drink ink.

Soon the Canon Pro9500 will be out. It is supposed to be a cheaper version of the 5000 using similiar inks. The Canon pigmented 5000 was reviewed by Luminious Landscape and they like Canon better than Epson and Epson is all they used to recommend.
