Small errors in shape alignment

When I make a large number of identical (at least they are supposed to be) ‘shapes’ I am having trouble getting them to precisely align. I create the shapes with snap-to-grid(I have also tried guides) on and I duplicate the shapes with snap on and I move the shapes with snap on but somehow errors keep creeping in. What am I doing wrong?
