Dear Experienced PhotoShop Users,

I am relatively new to Photoshop, so please forgive me if I don’t use the correct vocabulary to express what I would like to do.

I have an illustration that I want to be able to place in a newsletter. How to I separate it from the canvas its on? The white box surrounding it gets in the way of copy.

TIA for your help.

You need to use a clipping path. The easiest way is using the wizard under the Help menu . . . Export Transparent

take in the tools the Magic erase tool !

Arroke,

Thank you for a quick reply. I see there are several different types of selection tools. Do you find that one works better than another? I’m playing with magnetic lasso tool, but one wrong click and the path becomes connected. If it isn’t what I want, then I have to start over.

TIA,

Johan,

I am attempting your solution, but haven’t quite made it work yet. Thank you so much for writing.
