Hi all,
Sorry to ask such a simple question, but…

Can I make an animated gif with PhotoShop 7.0?

I only have two gif images that I’d like to merge into one animated gif.

When using Help, it says to "Choose Optimize Animation from the Animation palette menu"

I don’t even know where the Animation palette is.

Any step by step help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
bob

That’s because you do not have a manual.

Any step by step help would be appreciated.

All you need to do is whip out that manual, and read up on it. That’s step one.

Yes you can. ImageReady comes with/is part of PhotoShop 7. You need to use it for animated .gifs.

To open ImageReady press one of the two icon/buttons at the bottom of the tool bar or use File|Jump to|ImageReady. ImageReady will open.

Then search Help on ‘Creating + Editing Animations’. Detailed instructions are there. It’s fiddly but not hard once you get the hang of it. Far too many steps to explain here since we don’t know what you are trying to do.

If you can, I recommend using macromedia Fireworks for making animated gif’s ….

I think Photoshop/Imagready is superior in every way to Fireworks; *except* when it comes to animated gif’s.

Thank you Diane and everyone else who helped.
I was able to make an animated gif using ImageReady.
The only problem is that it’s very grainy.
Here’s my final product:
www.infantino.net/toc.html
It’s the gif on the top row, all the way to the right.
The "NEW" is moving to catch people’s attention. Notice how grainy the NEW is.
In Image Ready it looks sharp and clear.
Somehow in saving it, it turned grainy on me.

I’ll leave it like that for now…it serves its purpose to attract your eye, but if anyone has an idea as to why it went grainy on me, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks again for all who’ve helped. I’ve gotten great help from this newsgroup and wish you all well.
