Clipping path trouble

I’m extremely puzzled. I’ve been creating clipping paths of my Photoshop graphics, saving them as tiffs and then Placing them into PageMaker for sometime now, and they’ve been working fine. But I have this one graphic which I just cannot Place into the PM document as a clipped object. It insists on keeping its white square background. I’ve studied it and compared it to the other graphics which Place alright (without the square background) and I’m beat … I cannot find any difference.

I use the magic wand tool to define the area around the object, then Select>Inverse so that the actual object is defined, then go to the Paths layer, then Make Work Path, OK tolerance 0.5, Save Path, then Clipping Path, make sure Path 1 is selected and OK it. Works every time normally, but not with this one graphic. Any ideas anybody?

Try rotating the object a little bit in Pagemaker. Only 0,1° is probably enough.

You’ll be better of learning the pen tool. A path made from a selection has far more points than necessary.

That works for EPS, not for clipped TIFFs, Masden…..

You mean the rotation in Pagemaker, right?
I thought that it worked with placed TIFFs as well, but maybe I’m wrong.

Richard,

Probably Pagemaker couldn’t handle the high amount of points in the clipping path.

A tolerance of 0.6 instead of 0.5 produces fewer points in the path but still a lot more points than necessary.

A circle can (and should) be described by four points:

If you make a selection in Photoshop and out of this selection makes a work path with at tolerance of 0.6, this is what you get: <http://home18.inet.tele.dk/madsen/photoshop/06_path.png>.

A tolereance of 0.5:
