quicktime has a reference to your jpgs and is the default application. go into control panel, go to quicktime, select file type associations. click file types. find jpg under "Miscellaneous file formats" and uncheck it. you may (or may not) also want to uncheck the "alert me when another app modifies these associations".
that’s step 1. step 2 is to reassociate jpg with another app, like PS or IE or what ever. shift-right click a jpg file. select open with… from the context menu. select browse (or other app, depending on your os) select the app from the list that you want to use to open it. check the box that says "always use this app to open this file type".

Thanks for the info Dave. Step 2 is OK – I associated jpg with PS in the folders option of control panel. Step 1 doesn’t seem to be available on my system. In control panel, quicktime32 is installed and the actions you describe aren’t available (unless I’m missing something). This is in Windows 2000.
i gave the instructions from an xp pro box (home) but i’m at work now with a win 2k box and they look the same to me. qt version 6. in the dropdown box you need to select file type associations… everything else is exactly as i describe. check again.
step 2 alone might have you covered, but i was concerned that QT might try to steal the association back. that’s what step 1 does, clears the association entirely.
