Hi!

Do visit : <http://www.sheencal.com/Template10.jpg>

Now, see that horizontal, red, curvy bar at the top of the page. Isn’t that nice?!

I’ve been using PhotoShop 7.0 to try to achieve such a shape, but I can’t! Been working on my shape for 2 full days and I can’t waste my time anymore!

So, can anyone help me? I’ve been working with selecting selections, trimming, editing, transforming, deleting and editing selections to the max and I’m really really tired.

I hope someone can help me on this, preferrable by getting the shape in a .psd file and send it to me?

Thanks a lot! I’ll be grateful!

Have you tried drawing it with the pen tool? It takes a bit of practice but it’s your best bet.

Xeon, read up on using the pen tool if you haven’t done so yet. After you have an idea of how it works, just select the rectangular shape tool and drag out an elongated rectangle the length and height you want. Now select the pen tool, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the edge of the rectangular shape you just made to select the shape. Let up the Ctrl key and hold the pen tool over the center of the lower border of the rectangle, a small plus sign should show up next to the pen tool, click on the ling. This will place a new node on the rectangle. Now do the same thing but between the one you just added and the left edge of the rectangle. After you have the second node placed, hold down the Ctrl (the cursor changes to the white direct selection tool) and click and drag the second node down. This will give you the curve. Now you will just have to play around with the moveable points of the nodes to get exactly what you want. After you get your curve, make a copy of that layer in Photoshop and add a Bevel and Emboss and drop shadow style to it.

Another thing you could do is to bring the Template10.jpg into Photoshop and, with the pen tool again, draw around the example picture wrote in message

Xeon, honestly, that shape should take about a minute or less to draw with the pen tool, (with about 6 control points). Please don’t take this as an insult, but you must have overcomplicated it on yourself and then waded too deep in the wrong direction. We all do that sometimes. Try the pen tool, and if you still come up frustrated, come back and I’ll try to help in some way through email or something.

The trick to smooth curves with the pen tool is to click and drag. If you have trouble with the pen tool, try typing a big "S" with a sans serif type (Futura, Helvetica), and converting that to a path (layer>type>convert to path). Then delete the points on one side of the S, transform the path, rotate, and move points to get them to the shape you want.

Xeon,

Very easy with the pen tool.

Here’ a gif with the control points of the path visible to get you started:

Jay,

You have to access via web view to see images. The NNTP protocol is text only.

Len… thanks for the reply… sorry for my delya in acknowledging it… was out of town… Anyway, kind of figured that was the problem… but just wondered why adobe doesn’t allow attachments of images for the forums… would be useful… or even an indication that there’s an image there and it needs to be accessed thru the web view…

Cheers…

JJ,

or even an indication that there’s an image there and it
needs to be accessed thru the web view…

<<

That’s why it is better to post a link to an image as in:

<a href="http://somedomain/images/imagename">Click here for image</a>

rather than ’embedding an image with:

<img src="http://somedomain/images/imagename">

That way it is available for NNTP users as well as web users , doesn’t use up so much bandwidth on the forums, and is the route I normally take. In this case it was just such a small image that I embedded it….

Hi Len…

Actually what i meant was if a line could be put in – for the offline users – saying there’s an image there… Didn’t realise that some of Tony’s tuts had images at first… then had to do a search in the web view… no big deal… but it did take a while… so just kind of wondered that if an image is already in a message then it shouldn’t be a problem to automatically – server side work required here – include a link to the image or the post for those who want to take a look… or am i talking nonsense? 🙂

Cheers…

Jay,

or am i talking nonsense?<<

No, not at all, but as the web-x forum software is a supplied package and not a custom-built job, there are limits to what ‘personalization’ can be made

🙁 Kind of thought that would be the case…..
