Thanks to those that replied in my other thread for mouse problems. slowing it down seemed to help, also retraining myself to look at a 19 inch display with the mouse in a different spot helped.

i have a question about wacom tablets.
mainly, what is the difference (outside of price) between an $80 tablet and a $350 tablet.

i dont need it to be wireless, i can set it up via usb, but obviously the pen should be wireless.

thanks.

The lower priced Wacom Graphire is fine but has lower pressure sensitivity and fewer features than the Wacom Intuos. Chances are you won’t mind unless you are doing professional work. See website for details: http://www.wacom.com/

But stick to Wacom because it is by far the most reliable and widely used brand. If you like the Graphire you may someday want to move up to the fancier models.

I have a newsletter that may answer your questions:

One artist I know compared using a cheaper tablet to using a crayon instead of a pen. The inferior number of pressure sensitivity levels on the cheaper tablets makes them "feel clunkier". Much depends on the level of work you will be doing with the tablet, so if you will be working at a professional level, you’d probably be better off getting the most you can afford. —

Be warned – a clerk at the Wiz told me the cheaper models don’t work with photoshop.

Which is absolute rubbish as I used an old Artpad II A6 (the forerunner of the Graphire) for a number of years with no problems whatsoever.

I’m still using an (over a decade) old ArtZ II which works perfectly. I wish it would die so I could justify the cost of a new Intuos (like I have at work).

Might just have to give it away because it shows no sign of quitting. Damn Wacom for making their stuff so good.

LOL! I didn’t wait for mine to die. I waited until about 6 weeks before the Intuos 3 came out and bought an A4 Intuos 2 (used) direct from Wacom at a very nice price 😉

NB Used, in Wacom’s case means they used it as a demo model. It came nicely packed with everything a new one would have with not a mark on it. If I didn’t know it was used I’d have said it was new 🙂
