CS slower and brushes dont work properly

Got CS recently but it seems to take longer to process images e.g. making picture packages seems to slow the system to a crawl.

Also the erasing, cloning and healing tools don’t seem to do anything (or the screen just isn’t refreshed) but rebooting seems to make them work.

Ideas?

Have the same problem myself and the brushes palette has changed too!!!. Before the flames let me point out this is a legal and registered copy.
