I need to use the Polar Coordinates filter with a very large image (43200 x 21600px rgb8bit 72dpi). I know that even CS are unable to Polar Distort it due to the very large ram amount required.

I’ve resampled it at 21600 x 10800px and I can distort it, but only if I drag the Preference > memory slider to ~45% or less. Since I’ve a 4Gb ram system (with only 3Gb recognized by WinXP-Pro), I believe that the Polar Coordinates filter use extra memory than the one allocated to PS.

I’m interested to know if there is some way to determinate the maximum allowable image size that is possible to distort.

Is also possible to split the large image in 2 or 4 chunk, Polar distort, and then reassembly it ?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Maryo,

You may be able to run the filter on a single channel at a time……

Thanks Len, your suggestion is great, now I can rise the 30k x 15k size. When I try to go above, I see that most of the filter was unavailable.

That is correct, most of the filters still don’t work with images over 30,000 pixels.
