ICC profiles?

What are ICC profiles and do I need to save them with my files? What if I don’t?

I use Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS. Thanks.

ICC profiles are just a description of either a color space or the characteristics of an input(i.e.scanner) or output device (printer, monitor). You don’t need to save them with your files, but when you do, it makes it easier for the person on the other end to view the file the same way you are seeing it, or to know more precisely the intended purpose of file in question.
