Actually, it’s a bit more complex. The shadows have to be blurred and offset a bit differently than layer (blending) effects permit. So, do the drop-shadow, then create a layer from the effect and apply blur, drag the shadow where you want it. You may have to scale it a bit, too.

It looks like a regular drop shadow style with a significant distance, spread and size. I have Photoshop 7 open at the moment and the distance goes to 30000 pixels. I can get this effect without separating the effect into a new layer.

Peadge 🙂

That sounds a bit complex………why not just do the drop shadow, give it a distance and a blur?

I didn’t write what I did without trying it. As I said, the blending options don’t quite make it, but perhaps the type-face (font) choice makes the difference. I’m fairly critical when it comes to imaging, so more control is better.

OK to clarify to all telling me the limits to drop shadow. It was called the same way back before you could do it with a simple click. It has virtually no limitations when one does it by "scratch".

I tried it too and my results, without even making any adjustments, looked strikingly similar to the artphiles page. The text was at 72 ppi and the drop shdow was distanced 5 pixels, spread at zero pixels, and size at 5 pixels. The angle was 120 degrees. The angle could’ve been changed a bit, but other than that, it looked very close.

I agree that for greater control, separating the layer styles can be of great benefit. I just don’t see any evidence of this in the Artphile text.
