fading effects

How can you fade an effect across the picture? For example, on the righ side the effect is very strong, but on the left side it is weaker.

I want my picture to be very pixelated on the left, but be normal o the right, and fade between in the middle

that’s depend if you want the effect itself or just the opacity of the effect to fade:
in this last case you can add a layer mask with your effect on a layer and underneath the "no effect" layer
and apply a gradient to the mask, so the effect will fade as the gradient let appear the layer under.

Okay, I think I understand what you mean. Actually, I wanted the effec to fade, not just the opacity.

Fading the opacity will work too, though, I guess. But I can’t figur out how to make a gradient that will make the layer underneath sho through on one side and do nothing on the other side :-
