PNG-files who don’t use the alpha-channel as transparency.

I have put an alpha-channel in my png-file, but i do not want that alpha-channel to be used as a transparency map..just embedded in the file… how can i do this? (it has to be a png-file)

use photoshop 7.0

In order for your PNG to have transparency, the original image (PSD) must also have transparency. If you can see the checkerboard through your image, then your PNG will be saved with transparency (provided you enable the corresponding option, of course). Using alpha channels to add transparency was an older (and I believe incorrect) approach to adding transparency to PNGs. So, simply turn off any background layers and ensure that the original image appears the same as the intended output.

The PNG spec. specifies that the extra channel is transparency

If you want an image with the extra channel as something other than transparency, you should not be using PNG.
