I have been reviewing information on saving, importing etc on Actions, and have another question.

I have a series of Actions in PS 6 I would like to export to CS. One custom action I found named I did install in CS yet when I called it up it said I couldn’t use it as it not compatible. In as much as it was built and used in PS6, if that one won’t work, will any of the others work? I have them saved, but I don’t want to replace the set supplied with CS if it will compromise Actions as a whole.

While you are at it on this issue, can someone tell me how to install actions into CS that are available for download from the Adobe site? For some odd reason, I cannot find out anywhere how I might install the actions I have downloaded. Thanks.

There is nothing to install. Just load them in the actions palette.

Lawrence – all actions from previous versions will load in CS, and 99% of them should work just fine.

Wilson…

To expand on what Chris suggested, press F9 to show the Actions Palette and from the Actions Palette Menu (click black triangle, top right of palette), choose Load Actions…, navigate to the .atn file you downloaded. Click the file name to select it and OK to copy it into the Actions Palette.

I found the PS help topics on actions to be very informative. If you haven’t had a chance to read them, search on "automation tasks" or "actions."

Thanks guys. I can’t believe what this software does. I’ll not begin to learn 10% of this software.

Wilson, hang out here long and pretty soon you’ll be up to 12% or 13%! 🙂

So simply moving the Actions folder from a saved PS6 Actions folder to the PSCS Actions folder suffices?

PS, milbut; I think I am going to trash the Partition Magic stuff. How it(I) managed to demolish the images in the work in progress partition mystifies me, and I no longer want to go with mystery so far as my own work is concerned. I’ll leave mystery for the Pearly Gates, not Bill Gates!

I’m around for the long haul Dave. If you think I’m gong to get to 12%, you are an optimistic person. I don’t think you know how low functioning I am!

Wise choice. Not bad for an emergency, but I’ve never trusted anything short of a fdisk/reformat for serious work. It’s a good tool, but like any good tool, use only in it’s proper place! 🙂

Aw, easy! I’ve been here over a year and I bet I’m up to 15% already! 🙂

Do you have any good sources for actions that put a nice edge around pictures?

Wilson, try the Adobe Studio Exchange. Lots of free actions and borders and stuff. Best is, get an action, then follow along and learn how to do it yourself!

You may need to reregister (it’s adobe.com, not adobeforums.com, so the user name doesn’t carry over) but it’s free. Great stuff!

Wilson…

Here are a few more sites from which actions can be downloaded; the first three have some pretty good frame / edge actions. The rest are all over the board.

As Dave noted, a good way to learn how is to study the works of others.

Have fun…

Danny
