I am reading about the History Brush, I first blur an image, then select the Histroy Brush and it explains to go to the Options bar and change blend mode to lighten, so it will only affect pixels that are darker than blurred state.

What does this mean? How is it only affecting certain pixels?

exingo, i’ve found that when I’m not sure about a term i read here or in the manual, using the search feature of the online help is often the easiest way to find out what I need.

Open the help file and search for:

"blend modes"

one of the hits will be:

"Selecting a blending mode"

check it out. It contains this explaination for lighten:

Lighten

Looks at the color information in each channel and selects the base or blend color–whichever is lighter–as the result color. Pixels darker than the blend color are replaced, and pixels lighter than the blend color do not change.

but more importantly, it shows samples of all the blend modes in a side by side comparison format.

hth, dave
