I’ve got a customer using Photoshop 5.5. When he opens a document on one server and modifies it and saves it on another server, the document retains it’s original NTFS file permissions, instead of inheriting it from the parent folder on the server where he saves it.
The standard behavior for a file in this circumstance is to inherit permissions from the parent folder, and I’ve tried copying it with explorer, and it works as expected. I also tried opening the file with MGI Photosuite and saving it to the second server. Worked as it should.
It is only Photoshop that fucks up.
The server where the files is loaded from is Windows 2000 server and the server where the modified picture is saved on is a NT 4 server. My customer is using Windows 2000 pro.

Any ideas ?

Patrik,

Working across a network is ONLY supported using Version Cue.

In all other case the file should be copied from the server to the local HDD, worked on and saved to the local HDD and then copied back to the network drive

Hmm, is there a product called "Photoshop Cue" or what ?

I can understand that PS 5.5 is rather old and the support isn’t extented for this old version, but seriously, doing the above must be a giant step backwards ? (I refer to copying the file locally and work on it and then copy it to the new location).

However, I will continue to investigate. Do somebody out there know of any similar phenomena and a possible solution ?

Version Cue ships with the Creative Suite bundle.

Ok, I’ve now tried with Photoshop v7.0.1, and the file permissions works as expected. I.e. there’s a problem with Photoshop 5.5.
Will suggest workaround, upgrade or switch for my customer.
