I used the paintbrush to draw a character in red against a white background. Saved it as a PSD file. I want to change the color of the character to black against a transparent background. Cannot figure out how to do this without tracing the character again with the paint brush. Neither the Change Color function or just changing the foreground color works. I am using Photoshop Elements. GB

I don’t have Elements, but if it has a Magic Wand tool, this would be the thing to use. If the background is transparent, you can select the background, then go to Select>Inverse (SHFT+CTRL+I) and dump in the black.

hi there

There is a couple of things you might like to try

method one
1/ go to enhance , then select adjust colour
and remove colour ( you end up with a grey-scale image.

2/ next go to image , adjustment , threshold
and move sliders to produce the look you want .
