I’m having this problem frequently, and I’m not sure if it’s a Photoshop7 problem or a Windows XP problem. When I open a file, it will inform me that my font needs to update (Often it’s my Times New Roman Font) and upon the update, the text using that font will turn into jibberish and symbols. Any ideas on how to correct this problem?

There are two possible reasons: either the font is corrupt and needs to be re-installed or you have a true type and type 1 version of the same font in the system. Or, you are updating to a multi-lingual version (I forget the name for that type of font).

I did recently have to install some multiple language support for a project I was doing, but I erased the Times New Roman font family after that and did a complete reinstall of windows and I am still having the problem…

I only have .ttf files for the Times New Roman font in my Windows/fonts directory. Would a type 1 version exist elsewhere?
