I went to my styles pull downs the other day looking to just smack aluminum siding, and all my extra styles have disappeared.
Is there a FREE source like at macromedia for actions styles, shapes etc.. ?

What’s that supposed to mean ? They’ve been on my HD for years, and today when I went to use them they were gone. I’m figuring when I finally deleted ps6 from the hd, that ps7 was using the actions from the ps6 folders. As for adobe exchange. I’ve been there 2 days now and getting nothing but 500 internal server errors when selecting download. I’m not the only one, but so far there’s no solutions been offered as to what’s causing it.

Unless Actions, Styles, etc. are actually saved somewhere (Use the flyouts)they can be lost in any number of ways. Just because they are available in the palettes doesn’t mean they are saved.

I suggest saving them to both the Presets folder and to another location outside of Photoshop folders, and if possible backed up to some other media.

IIRC my original message said styles. Losing one or two styles I could/would understand. PS [since 5] auto saves all settings, styles, actions etc.. I suppose that could have been interpreted to mean I only had one or two styles and now they were gone. Which would have still made no sense as they would have still existed in the pull downs or the active style palette assuming I hadn’t quit PS via BSOD.
And they do save unless there’s a setting I haven’t found yet that says don’t save settings when quitting.

What I’m saying is that saving them automatically as a setting is rather precarious. They can be lost, corrupted, etc. Really saving them as a file to different, multiple locations will prevent them from being lost and also make them portable, etc.

Assuming that you didn’t fall into the trap of ps7 and use the ‘alternate accessories folder’ Which I have to assume I did as I removed ps6 and updated my backup D: drive once I was ready to use ps7 alone.
That’s the only explanation I can figure as to where old styles and other things went.
ie: If you’re using stuff from other programs, there’s little you can do if you decide to dump the other program and it takes out more of the other one also.
