Ok here is the problem. It’s Photoshop 6.0 & 7.0 on Windows 2000.

1. Photoshop takes a long time to start up. But eventually does.

2. Once it is started..Trying to open up any file and you see it read the file at the bottom left of the screen but then everything just stops. The file takes over a minute to open and that’s any type of file regardless of size. Once the file opens, which doesn’t actually work every time, Photoshop runs fine.

3. A third thing to know is that we created a new user and logged back on. When we started up Photoshop with that new user everything worked fine.

Any ideas? Need any more info? Thanks.

reset the prefrences (per the faq) for the user that’s having the problem.

Could Photoshop be looking for a non-existant network printer (or drive)?

It’s definitely not the preferences. I’ve reset those. As for the printer/drives I’m not sure how to check that. Any other suggestions?

Well, I checked my printers and I have one linked over a network. The printer was inactive. I made it ready and it seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the suggestion.

you can set up a dummy local printer and set it to "Default" using the printer app in the control panel. That way you don’t need to check to see that the network printer is "ready".
