Given a PNG-24 image file, PhotoShop has the ability to adjust the transparency of an individual pixel. When saved, the file becomes approximately 25% larger. Is this because PhotoShop is creating an "alph channel" for each pixel in the file? If so, is the resulting file really a PNG-32 image file?

If the file was created in another application then;

Photoshop saves the PNG file with less compression (assuming creator application saved it with more), resulting in a bigger filesize (regardless of whether it does or does not add an Alph a Channel. I don’t think it would unless you told it).

Thus still 24-bit PNG.
