Good Afternoon –

Some of our users are experiencing a problem with inserting signature and logo graphics into MS Word XP. With some files, the background appears clear/white on the screen or print preview, however when printing, a grayscale background appears behind the signature or logo.

This problem occurs with just some files. All of our signature graphic files are scanned and saved from Adobe Photoshop 7.0 as tif format. Logos are created in Illustrator 10.

In Word, when going to properties of the graphic, under the Picture Tab, the Color setting is configured to automatic. With our trouble graphics, we can change this setting to black and white. Then the printout has no gray behind the signature/logo. However, our users have never needed to make take this step before, and this step does not resolve grayscale logos.

Any suggestions as to areas we could troubleshoot in the Adobe side? Thank you in advance. Timothy

Ensure the white in the Graphic files is actually the 100% transparent colour.

If it is not and is Pure 100% white: RGB 255,255,255, then if the final output is unmodified then you may with luck get pure white.

In word, in the grahic toolbar there maybe options arount to make a certain colour transparent. Or fiddle with the brightness controll for the image in work and ligtehn it so the grey background is pure white as the paper it si printed on.

Hello Timothy!

A short question: Did you manage to solve the problem you mentioned with the above topic in the Adobe PS newsgroup?

I got exactly the same problem when using signature or logo graphics in TIF format in Word XP. There are gray dots printed in an entirely white area (RGB 255 255 255).

Microsoft recommends “8 Bit per Pixel” to solve TIF problems in Word 2002. But my graphics already do have that format. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance & greetings from Germany.
