Trying to get the ‘Vignette’ Action results in this error using Photoshop CS in WinXP: The command "Feather" is not currently available.

Is there a step or three that I’m not doing before trying to Vignette an image?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

Sounds as though there is no active selection area when calling for feather

Not sure what I’m missing. Taking a simple .jpg, I try ‘Select All’ and then the Action. I’ve tried double clicking to create a layer by renaming the background, and then the Action. I’ve tried ‘Add Layer Mask – Reveal All’ and the Action. Obviously I’m inexperienced, but I can’t find a cure in my searching or reading… Any ideas?

Kov-Ice,

It’s what Len said. You need to make a selection, ostensibly an oval selection of an area, THEN run the action. The action name is "Vignette (selection)".

Yikes… It all seems so simple now. I see that the feather command needs room outside the selection to do its thing, which allows me to choose the size and shape of the Vignette. I thought that the Action just fit the Vignette to the size of the picture automatically, I guess. Much better this way. Thanks for bearing with me and my lack of knowledge!
